Professional Picture Organization

Whew!! What a relief!! This project has been on my mind for quite a while, actually before we moved.  I know you are all familiar with all the extra pictures from Christmas, Sports, School and even Family photos.

Before we moved I had a photo album with all the professional pictures we have taken.  Pictures of Kyle as a baby, Kailey as a baby and all kinds of others, including pictures of us without kiddos (hard to imagine now).  It's so hard to get rid of the extras.  For some reason I have to hold on to them and I'm pretty sure I am not alone in this.

Here is the current photo album that holds all the photos.

Yup it's an old school photo album.  This photo album holds sentimental value to me.  When my husband and I were dating, he gave this to me for my birthday.  He put a couple photos of us and said it was for us to hold our memories.  After we were married, I started scrapbooking and took everything out and put it in to a Scrapbook.  Now I realize, I should have left it alone because I have never received a gift like that from him again, so I'm kind of sad that I took it apart. But, I'm going to be ok with it because I still scrapbook.

You can see there are a lot of pictures in this album.

Pictures of my husband and I before we were married.

Our first baby, Kyle

Our second baby, Kailey.

                                                            and then school starts...

When I see pictures of them as newborns and then school pictures, I realize how fast time goes by.
It's probably a good idea that I start this organization process before I get too many pictures, I forget what order they go in.

After lots of contemplation on how I was going to organize these photos, I decided I really liked the pictures in the notebooks.  Plus that meant I'd still be able to keep my beloved old school photo album.

I decided to go with a binder for each of them.  I didn't want to buy a photo album so I decided to go with the Staples binders that I have heard so much about.

Of course I had to go with a pink and blue one.  I also decided to go with a 2 inch binder rather than a smaller one.  They are in 1st and 3rd grade, I foresee a ton of pictures from now until 12th grade!

Before Pinterest, I used to cut things out of magazines.  I'm sure you all did too, that was our Pinterest back then, so I have collected a TON of plastic sleeves.

They all live in a nice little container that I have tucked away in a cabinet.

My favorite brand is the Avery brand.  You can pretty much find these bad boys anywhere.

So I took a handful out,

gathered the professional pictures that I have roaming around the house (they were really in a drawer of papers I have to sort through) and sorted.

The first pile is Kyle, Kailey and Family.

I grabbed the original photo album and separated the photos that were already filed and put them in the separate binders.  They are all put in chronological order.

Since our photo album was already labeled, I grabbed my favorite label maker and made labels for Kyle and Kaileys binders.

There they are, my babies.

I put the picture that I am currently working on, for their memory book, in the front of the binder.  Hope that made sense.  That's a whole other blog post. hehe

All labeled and pretty.  Blue for my boy and pink for my girl!

The black album will still house our family photos.  They each have some empty plastic sleeves in the back. I am so happy I have finally finished this project.  Now as pictures come in, get distributed, the extras will slip in the back empty sleeves and be in order.

How do you have your photos organized, or is it time to start?

A Little Bit Goes A Long Way

Getting used to a small house is hard.  When you have lived in a home that has ample space for everything, making a transition to a smaller home can be quite frustrating.  We have been here two months now and I am still struggling with getting the kitchen perfect.

Does this look familiar?

If you look close, really close you can see there is an attempt at some organization, really, look CLLLLLOOOOSEEEE!!  Ok if you spotted the black organizers in there, HIGH FIVE!!!

Not much was needed to organize this drawer.  These black organizers are from Wal Mart, they are Rubbermaid.  I like the color black.  I'm starting to like white but I have too much black to turn to a new color.  Maybe one day.  Anyway, I went to Wal Mart and picked up two more organizers and reworked the drawer.

You can clearly see a difference.  The one thing that I have learned in my organizational attempts is, follow through.  If you don't put things back where you got them, forget being organized.

This is only one drawer in my kitchen.  I am not a gourmet cook, not even a good one, but this drawer gets used all the time.  It was driving me crazy fiddling through that drawer before because I couldn't find anything.  For now, this works and it definitely cuts the time in finding the tool I am looking for.

Hope this helps and inspires you if you are having the same problem.

A Little Bit Country And Why It Pays To Read The Fine Print

Yup you heard that right!  I am just a little bit country.  Wait, did I tell you where I live?  Well if you have been following along, you know that we just moved. You also know that I am obsessed with shopping and I LOVE Target.  Well, guess what, the closest Target is 40 minutes away.  Yes, I said that right, 40 minutes away and it's in another state, and it costs me $5.40 every time on my way back because of a toll.  EEEEEkkk.  That makes for a sad Michelle, right here.

Being that we are so far out in the country, it's good and bad.  Good: whatever I buy when I go in to town, means I need to really make sure I need it, can use it, it will fit, because I can't turn around and take it back the next day.  Bad: I can't hop in the car when I am having an organizational emergency to go find the perfect item. We do have a Wal Mart up the street.  It's brand new, I mean two years old.  Sounds perfect right?  Well not really.  It's actually not a good Wal Mart.  They don't have a fabric section, or a nice new home section.  It's really kind of a bare minimum Wal Mart.  I have to travel 1 hr. away to get to a good one.  I know you feel so sad for me right now.  But it's ok.  This house is so small, no more furniture will fit.  That means anything that comes in this house, has to have a home or it's not coming in.

So...I am on a roll on getting the house put together.  All the windows in the house have vertical blinds which is great.  I have never had these in any of our homes.  Lots of windows in the house, lots of window coverings needed.  I wasn't quite sure what to do.  When I found the pattern of the valances I chose, I fell in love.  I was a little bit skeptical and wasn't sure if I would really love them.  I knew that I didn't want to do full curtains.  Remember, lots of windows, means curtains will be expensive.  Plus the house is really small, I don't want to suffocate it with curtains.  On top of that, I don't want to have to clean curtains all the time.  That's ok, call me lazy.

Here is the pattern I chose.

curtains, saving money, rebates

I LOVE it.  I know it's not for everyone, but it's for me and our home.  It pretty much matches everything in the house.

Speaking of Better Homes and Gardens, I'm sure that anyone that has shopped in Wal Mart in the last few years has noticed this fabulous brand and the cute things they have brought to Wal Marts shopping floor.

Now here comes the fun part.  For now I have a single valance on each window except for two.  They were $9.99 a valance.  Hubby went shopping with me and he almost freaked out when it turned out to be $60.  I mean for valances, not bad.  Had I gotten them at my favorite store, forget it, my windows would still be bare.  OR I would be buying them one at a time and by the time I finish, they would be discontinued.  HAHAHA

On certain packages of this brand I'm sure you have noticed the "1 Year Free Subscription".  If you buy this product, it is included in the purchase!  Yup my Better Homes and Gardens subscription is free from a purchase I made a while back.  Now did anyone notice that I said, "included" yup INCLUDED in the price.  That means, buying this item, is buying a subscription.

Now see the little * on it?  Well lets see what that means?

If I don't want the subscription, I can send this little bad boy in and get a $6 REFUND!! That means each valance is only $4.99!! Are you kidding me??  Do you know how many of these I have thrown away?  I am a little annoyed with myself for not ever reading the fine print.  So now I am awaiting a nice little refund and maybe when that comes, I'll go get myself three more valances so each window looks a little more full.

So I learned with this purchase that:
I'm a little bit country.
I Love Better Homes and Gardens, a little bit more.
I really am almost done with the house.
These valances match the house perfect, even if they are a little bit country!!
